After a two-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic, plans are under way for a “scaled-back” St. Patrick’s Day parade in Enniskillen – but only if there is enough interest, say organisers.
Project St. Patrick, the voluntary team behind the Enniskillen St. Patrick’s Day parade, are calling for members of community groups, schools, sports or other clubs, bands or even business managers, to get involved with this year’s celebrations.
Announcing plans this week for St. Patrick’s Day in Enniskillen for 2022, a spokesperson for Project St. Patrick said: “After much discussion, the small voluntary team behind Project St. Patrick have decided to put on a scaled-back St. Patrick’s Day parade this year, but only if there is enough interest.
“If you are a member of a school, community group, sports or other club, band or even [a] business manager, then we need to hear from you.”
Calling for interest in submitting a float for the aptly entitled ‘Back To You in 22’ parade, the spokesperson explained that “anything goes, theme-wise”.
They added: “So up-cycle, recycle or design something new for our cautious comeback.”
Noting that the parade will only go ahead with active community participation, the spokesperson continued: “So please, at this stage, send us an expression of interest to feargalshannon1@yahoo.co.uk.”
You can also visit the Project St. Patrick Facebook page and comment on the announcement, or message the team directly via Messenger. The deadline for expressions of interest is January 31.
“Given the current climate and in terms of participating or attending the events, safety will be paramount.
“If we do go ahead this year, please be considerate of [pandemic] measures and manage your expectations,” the spokesperson said.
The event is sponsored by Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, funded by the Department of Communities.
