A suspected case of avian flu has been detected in Fermanagh.
The suspected case has been detected in Enniskillen according to a release posted on the The Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) wesbite .
A spokesperson from DAERA said: "Following the suspicion of notifiable avian influenza, including initial laboratory results, in a premises in Enniskillen, County Fermanagh, the Chief Veterinary Officer has taken the decision to take appropriate disease control measures. This includes the humane culling of affected birds and the introduction of Temporary Control Zones (TCZs) effective from 10am on February 4, to mitigate for onward disease spread.
"Samples have been sent to the National Reference Laboratory to confirm strain and pathogenicity. Should highly pathogenic AI be confirmed, these TCZs will be revoked and a 3km Protection Zone (PZ) and 10km Surveillance Zone (SZ) established."
This is the sixth TCZ that has been established in Northern Ireland, other cases have been established in Aughnacloy, County Tyrone, Broughshane, County Antrim, Armagh, County Armagh, Coagh, County Tyrone and in Ballinderry, County Londonderry.
Cases have been also detected in the Border counties with five cases in County Monaghan and a case County Cavan.
