‘Eight Hours of What We Will’, a new conceptual sculpture exhibition by award-winning Dublin-born artist, Aoife Ward, opens in Strule Arts Centre Gallery today Thursday, February 3 at 7pm.
The exhibition is based on a play of words coined by labour activists as part of their fight to reduce the working day to eight hours – “eight hours of work, eight hours of rest and eight hours of what we will”, and is Aoife’s first solo exhibition on the island of Ireland.
When it comes to the work of an artist, Aoife said she finds it difficult to ascertain which of the three categories – work, rest or what we will – it fits into. The exhibition will be officially opened by, artist and social media commentator, Alan Keane.
Aoife, a graduate of the National College of Art and Design, was runner-up in the competition at the 1 SQ FT exhibition hosted by Fermanagh and Omagh District Council in 2020
In support of the exhibition, Aoife will deliver an artist’s talk about her work at the gallery at Strule Arts Centre tomorrow, Friday, February 4, commencing at 11am.
To book a free place at the talk, see www.struleartscentre.co.uk/whats-on/, or telephone the Box Office at 028 8224 7831.
