Construction of the new £6 million extension for Enniskillen Integrated Primary School is well underway with the completion of the building's steel frame.

The project represents an investment of more than £6 million by the Department of Education and will include a new permanent seven-classroom extension, which will eliminate the need for temporary mobile accommodation on site.

Giving an update on the progress of the extension, Neil Jardine, Chairman of the school's Board of Governors told The Impartial Reporter this week that the new building is planned for completion in late 2022.

"Unfortunately we have suffered some delays due to supply chain issues and Covid, both of which are having a major impact on construction projects at present," he added.

Sod cut

Works on the extension, which are being undertaken by Woodvale Construction, began following the sod cut on Wednesday, June 16, 2021. Education Minister Michelle McIlveen joined Enniskillen Integrated PS staff and pupils to cut the first sod on the project. Speaking at the time, Minister McIlveen said: "I welcome the significant £6 million investment in the future of Enniskillen Integrated Primary School. This new modern accommodation will provide an improved working environment for the staff and pupils of the school, which will have a positive effect for many years to come."

The scheme was announced as a project to receive funding from the Fresh Start Programme in March, 2016.
