Sole Purpose Productions will be presenting ‘Scenes From An Inquiry’, written by Dave Duggan and directed by Enniskillen’s Kat Woods, as part of the Festival of Theatre for Social Change to mark 25 years of award-winning theatre.

This performance will also mark the 50th anniversary of Bloody Sunday. The play was first produced in 2002 to mark the 30th Anniversary of Bloody Sunday, in partnership with the Bloody Sunday families and the Bloody Sunday Trust. Dave subsequently wrote a radio drama version, which was broadcast on RTE Radio 1.

The play offers the audience an insight into the experience of families and witnesses who attended The Saville Inquiry, which took place from 1998 to 2010. It is in one aspect a theatrical re-enactment of the inquiry; however, it can also be viewed as an abstract interpretation of it.

The production will be directed by Kat, who is currently under commission with the MAC, Tinderbox Theatre and The Abbey Theatre, and produced by Patricia Byrne.

The stellar cast includes Caoimhe Farren (‘The Ferryman’, ‘West End’, ‘Derry Girls’, ‘This Way Up’, ‘Doctors’), Nicky Harley (Tinderbox Theatre, the MAC, the Lyric), and Michael Johnston (‘Bruiser’, ‘Big Telly’, the MAC).

Dave said: “I wanted to write something that would affect people at an emotional level, capture the spirit and experiences people were having. One of the key things for agreeing on the revival was the need to address the legacy of The Troubles.”

‘Scenes From An Inquiry’ will be performed at The Derry Playhouse from February 16 to 18.
