A protest is to be staged this weekend in Enniskillen in response to Fermanagh and Omagh District Council's decision to raise the local district rate again this year.
Posting on Facebook, an organiser on behalf of the group, Fermanagh People's Assembly/Daíl, said: “This protest [is] at the behest of the people of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council area who have had another rates increase forced on them by the Council and supported by the pro-establishment parties.
“No input or debate was allowed on the rates issue, except by those in support of the rates hike. This is not democracy for the people but is plain and simple censorship.”
The protest will take place this Saturday, Feburary 19, at 1pm at Enniskillen Townhall.
Local Independent councillors claimed during the meeting on Monday evening to strike the annual rate that they were silenced and unable to speak.
Councillor Donal O’Cofaigh, CCLA, said: "I wish to publicly protest at the fact we were completely excluded from having any input in probably the most important decision we will make in the next year.”
