FARMERS who indiscriminately dispose of animal carcases have been severely criticised by a public health official.
The criticism follow the discovery of up to 40 carcases of rotting sheep in a natural seep hole close to the Marble Arch water treatment works at Marlbank, Florencecourt.
A local farmer, who took a farm in conacre in the Marlbank area just three weeks ago for sheep winter keep, made the grim discovery. The sheep are estimated to have been dead for 18 months and possibly longer.
Alan Shae, Chief District Environmental Health Officer, hit out at the irresponsible farmers who dump carcases.
Mr. Shaw said it was extremely difficult to ascertain the owner and his department was considering what action should be taken.
