A statement released this morning by Fermanagh and Omagh District Council has condemned the "aggressive" and "unwanted" invasion of Ukraine by Russia and its president, Vladimir Putin.
At its meeting on March 1, Council members approved that a statement be issued condemning the Russian invasion currently under way against the government and people of Ukraine.
The statement says: "Fermanagh and Omagh District Council condemns the aggressive and unwarranted actions of Russia and especially its President, Vladimir Putin, towards the people of Ukraine.
"The Council stands with the international community in expressing its solidarity and support for the people of Ukraine at this time of crisis.
"The Council calls on Russia to end this act of aggression immediately and for dialogue to restore peace and respect for international law.”
In addition, the Council has approved that Enniskillen Castle and Strule Arts Centre will be illuminated in blue - one of the national colours of Ukraine - next Monday, March 7 to demonstrate its support for President Zelenskyy and the people of Ukraine.
