After being closed for almost a year as conservation works to Cole's Monument were undertaken, along with improvement works to paths, Forthill Park in Enniskillen will finally reopen its gates to the public on Monday (March 14).
When works began at the park on April 12, 2021, it was anticipated that they would be completed over a four-month period, with the park expected to reopen last September.
However, the reopening date was pushed back multiple times as the works took longer than previously planned.
Speaking to The Impartial Reporter this week, a spokesman for Fermanagh and Omagh District Council said: "Following the completion of conservation works to Cole's Monument and essential stabilisation works to paths and steps, the Council will re-open Forthill Park to the public on Monday, March 14."
A programme of family activities are being planned to take place over Easter to officially mark the park's reopening, with more details to follow in the coming weeks.
"The park will require further resurfacing work to the paths. This needs to be undertaken in warmer weather.
"It is anticipated that this will take place in the summer; however, it will not require a further closure of the park.
"Works will be undertaken with minimum disruption to the park," the Council spokesman told this newspaper.
