Police in Fermanagh seized a sum of money last week after stopping a vehicle in Lisnaskea.
In a statement posted on the PSNI Fermanagh and Omagh Facebook page, a spokesperson related details of the incident on March 11 in Lisnaskea. They said: “District Support Team Officers observed a vehicle being driven along Main Street, Lisnaskea. Using powers under Article 180 of the Road Traffic Order (NI) Order 1981 the vehicle was stopped.
They continued: “As a result of this stop and upon speaking to the driver and passenger of the vehicle, officers established reasonable suspicion that there was controlled drugs within the vehicle or in the possession of one of the occupants of the vehicle.
“The vehicle and occupants were subsequently detained for the purposes of a search under Section 23 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971.During the course of the search no drugs were located.
“However, the occupants of the vehicle had over £1700 cash between them in their possession. Initial enquiries were made as to how they came into possession of this cash however we were not satisfied with their answers.”
The PSNI seized the sum, the spokesperson confirmed and said: The cash was then seized under Section 294 of the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002 as officers had reasonable suspicion that it was recoverable property or intended by those persons for use in unlawful conduct.
“We continue to target those involved in drug use and supply throughout the district.”
