An Irvinestown man has been fined for possession of cannabis.
On March 28, 2021, police attended an address in Kesh in relation to a separate matter. While there they detected a strong smell of cannabis at the property.
After being given consent by the owner to search the property, they asked Gregory Campbell (22), of Briars Hill, Drumharvey, Irvinestown, if there was any drugs in the property. He told officers there was some in the Ford Mondeo outside the house.
When police searched the car they found 20g of cannabis which Campbell said was for personal use.
Ciaran Roddy, Campbell’s barrister, told the court his client pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity.
He said Campbell had permitted police access and admitted there was cannabis in his possession.
Mr. Roddy continued saying that Campbell “candidly” accepted an ongoing addiction to cannabis but had abstained from it for several weeks and that it was for self-medication but that use was taking him to one place only - court.
Deputy District Judge John Rea fined Campbell £300 and warned him that he was building up a record and if it continued the threshold for custody will be met.
