Fermanagh Gardening Society are preparing for their annual Daffodil and Spring Flower Show and Plant Sale which takes place in the Exhibition Hall at the Ulster Farmer’s Mart, Old Tempo Road, Enniskillen this Saturday, April 9, 2022 from 1.30pm to 3.30pm. This will be the 54th annual show.
After being cancelled for two years, the organisers are delighted this popular event is taking place again attracting daffodil growers and flower exhibitors from across the country who enjoy the friendly rivalry of the show.
This year will see the presentation of some new awards which include one for first time exhibitors in the General Flower Section.
In recognition of the excellent work being done in school gardens, a School Garden Award will be presented to acknowledge schools fostering pupils’ interests in growing plants and food.
A new School Art award will be presented this year for a picture of Spring Flowers executed in any medium.
Details of Painting and Floral Arrangement Sections can be found on the show schedule available from Gardening Society members or by email to; fermanaghgarden@outlook.com
Exhibits should be staged by 11.30am on Saturday, April 9, 2022 in the Exhibition Hall, Ulster Farmers Mart or between 2pm and 5pm on Friday, April 8.
The Plant Stall will have its usual exciting range of plants donated by members. This always proves a great opportunity to acquire plants well suited to growing in Fermanagh and is a chance to find some unusual plants.
The entrance fee is £5 which includes afternoon tea.
The Daffodil Show is the final public event of Fermanagh Gardening Society’s year, the first being a very successful car boot plant sale in support of Air Ambulance held in Stuart’s carpark at the end of August.
Since recommencing monthly meetings in September 2021 Fermanagh Gardening Society have had interesting speakers discuss a range of topics. ‘Bulbs for Spring’ with Timothy Elliott at the October meeting; Mark McKeever from Hardymount Garden in County Carlow spoke about his life in gardening in November and the January meeting was a zoom talk delivered by Cotswold gardener and magazine writer, Nicola Hope.
The popular Klaus Laitenberger spoke on growing food at the February meeting.
The final speaker of the year was the editor of The Irish Garden, Mary Keenan from Gash Gardens in Co Offaly.
Monthly Meetings recommence in the Killyhevlin hotel on 20th September 2022 when new members are always welcome.
