Enniskillen’s Blakes of the Hollow has recently been named by Lonely Planet as one of the 20 best pubs on the island of Ireland for “pints, music and the time of your life”.
The prestigious guide book described the local watering hole as “one of the best-known Victorian-style pubs in Ireland”.
“Blakes of the Hollow is lovely for a quiet drink by yourself or with a few friends in one of their original snugs. Sit back with an expertly poured pint (or Irish coffee — the ones here are perfection) or tap your feet at one of their live music sessions. For fans of the epic high-fantasy show, a photo with the carved Game of Thrones door is a must,” said Lonely Planet writers Una-Minh Kavanagh and Fionnuala McCarthy.

Speaking to The Impartial Reporter, manager Mark Edwards said that he was “delighted” that Blakes of the Hollow has made Lonely Planet’s list, commenting that it means recognition of all the hard work the staff do.
“It’s not only the Victorian bar, it’s the staff as well and it’s a good combination of providing a nice memorable experience with good customer care.
“That’s what Blakes is always about and that’s the whole ethos, a nice family environment where it’s casual, people get to experience a traditional Irish bar at its best.”
Blakes of the Hollow is one of only three pubs in Northern Ireland to make the top 20.
“I’m delighted, especially being outside the city and the pub most furthest west with really stiff competition,” Mark told this newspaper, adding: “We’re right up there competing with the best.”
As manager of the pub for over 20 years, Mark commented that it was always a goal to provide “a real welcoming Fermanagh welcome to everybody who goes through the door”.
Acknowledging that the island of Ireland is home to over 7,000 pubs, Mark added: “For us to get a mention and to be the top three in Northern Ireland puts us really on the map and it’s great for the town as well.
“It’ll bring plenty of visitors to see and experience the venue.”
