THE new Erne Campus, of South West College (SWC), and Necarne Castle, have been shortlisted for the RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) Awards 2022.
SWC’s Erne Campus, constructed by Hamilton Architects, has been shortlisted in the Public Sector category.
Mann Williams, based in Belfast, completed the restoration of Necarne Castle, which has been shortlisted in the Heritage category.
World first
Not only the world’s first and currently largest educational passive house premium-rated building, SWC’s Erne Campus is also the first building in the UK to achieve both PHP and BREEAM Outstanding accreditations, in recognition of independent, third-party certification of the assessment of its sustainability performance.
The development of the campus aimed to push the possibilities of what an educational establishment could achieve by setting the gold standard for a further education campus building.
Meanwhile, with Necarne Castle on the point of collapse, Fermanagh and Omagh District Council secured funding to restore the building, creating a team skilled in the assessment of heritage works on at risk structures.
The project adapted a number of techniques which were entirely focused on the conservation and restoration of the castle.
Inspirational
The RICS awards showcase the most inspirational initiatives and developments in land, real estate, construction and infrastructure, and recognise outstanding achievement, teamwork and companies.
The entries are shortlisted across six categories – Commercial Development, Community Benefit, Heritage, Public Sector, Refurbishment-Revitalisation and Residential.
Companies still have the opportunity to enter an additional four categories – to be judged nationally – and have until April 29 to submit their entry.
The Chair of the RICS awards judging panel, Michael Hannaway, said: “Despite much uncertainty and challenging conditions over the past couple of years, property professionals in Northern Ireland continue to deliver exemplary, and in many cases, world-class built projects that are having a profoundly positive impact on our cities and towns.
“I wish the teams behind them all the best of luck in gaining recognition for their skills and hard work,” Michael concluded.
