After Covid-19 brought their first drama festival circuit experience to an abrupt halt in 2020, Enniskillen Theatre Company were not to be deterred, making a magnificent return for 2022 and scooping multiple awards along the way.
Enniskillen Theatre Company is a very young group, having only been established in 2019. Whilst there is a rich history of amateur drama in Enniskillen, no group from the town had been involved in festivals for many years, so a few heads got together and formed the company with the intention of giving it a try. A committee was formed, and a play was picked: ‘The Night Alive’, by Conor McPherson.
Everyone involved in this infant company have been members of various drama groups in the Enniskillen area, and all have played their part in many successful productions at Ardhowen Theatre in Enniskillen.
The new company thoroughly enjoyed the brief taste of their first festival experience before the pandemic put an abrupt end to the 2020 Drama Festival.
This year, it was decided that the company would present their original festival entry in the 2022 festival.
Having entered eight festivals in the confined section, the new group were thrilled to scoop a total of 24 awards which saw them qualify for the Bostik All Ireland Drama Festival Finals held in the Abbey Theatre in Ballyshannon.
They went on to receive four nominations at the finals, which included: Best Presentation, Best Stage Management – Betty McCabe, Best Lighting – Joe Gregory and Best Actor – Conor Friery.

A spokesperson for Enniskillen Theatre Company said: “It has been a fantastic journey throughout our first experience on the circuit and great to meet other groups with all the same passion for theatre, making friends along the way.
“We would like to thank all the festival organisers, adjudicators, those behind the scenes, and the fantastic audiences for coming back out after such a difficult few years –your support and your encouragement along the way has meant so much. Thank you!”
