A man found hiding in a sheugh before being arrested by police has been convicted of resisting police.
Enniskillen Magistrates Court heard on Monday that on June 29, 2020, at around 10pm, police received a report from An Garda Siochana of a vehicle that failed to stop in Carrick-on-Shannon, Co. Leitrim.
Abandoned
A pursuit took place but stopped at the Border. The vehicle was found abandoned in a laneway outside a house on the Marlbank Road.
A PSNI search of the area located John Thompson (33), with an address of Drumadown Road, Derrygonnelly.
The court heard Thompson was found in a sheugh, and when he was discovered by officers, he tried to make off, but was detained and arrested.
Lowered his body
While being brought to the police vehicle, Thompson continually lowered his body to the ground or lifted it off the ground, so he had to be carried.
Representing himself in court, Thompson said he was in the vehicle, but was not driving.
He gave no excuse as to why he resisted police.
He was fined £200 for resisting police.
