Recently elected Fermanagh and South Tyrone MLA Tom Elliott has hit out at Tesco following the suggestion that a Northern Ireland branch has refused to sell and display Queen's Jubilee items to the public.
The Ulster Unionist MLA was joined in his outrage at the Cookstown store by Mid Ulster Councillor Trevor Wilson.
Mr. Elliott said: "If this is true, it begs the question: is Tesco embarrassed by Her Majesty's 70 years of service?
"I find it incomprehensible and insulting that Tesco Cookstown would refuse to celebrate this once-in-a-lifetime event.”
Councillor Wilson added: “I note that this is an ongoing issue with the Cookstown branch after it denied costumers the opportunity to buy Northern Ireland Football team merchandise for the EURO 2016.
“I contacted the Tesco Chief Executive last week [about not selling Jubilee items] and, to date, have received no response.
"This is a matter that requires urgent attention, given the widespread popularity of Her Majesty The Queen, and in particular, at reaching the marvellous milestone of 70 years as the monarch of the United Kingdom.
“Jubilee stock is available, so why is Tesco in Cookstown denying their customers, who wish to buy it, the opportunity to do so?”
