South West College (SWC) hairdressing and barbering students are donating more than £500 to charity following the success of their recent hair-raising fundraising event.
The Salon at SWC's Erne Campus recently hosted a ‘Blade’z and Blow Dry’z’ charity event in aid of Sands and the Saturday Club Omagh.
The event, which was open to all staff, students and the general public, took place on Monday, May 16 at the college’s in-house hairdressing salon, where hairdressing and beauty therapy students practise the latest techniques and treatments to develop their training skills.
Starting at 10am, Level 2 Hairdressing students offered blow-dries, whilst the Level 2 Barbering students provided haircuts, which included facial trims.
All proceeds raised from the Blade’z and Blow Dry’z event will be donated to support local charities including Sands, the leading stillbirth and neonatal charity in the UK, as well as The Saturday Club Omagh, a volunteer-driven project to support children with special needs.
The event also featured a raffle with a wide range of prizes donated by local businesses, and was drawn as the fundraising event came to a close.
Speaking about the event, SWC Hair and Beauty Lecturer Amanda McMaster, said: “It was a great day; the students participated very well and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
"There was such a good atmosphere in The Salon, and we received very positive feedback from the students and clients.
"A total of £506.31 was raised to benefit these two charities, and we are incredibly grateful for the support received from the community. We would like to say a massive thank-you to everyone who donated and participated.”
