Pupils and staff at Maguiresbridge Primary School celebrated The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee on Wednesday, June 1.
However, preparations started the week before with the children researching Her Majesty and taking part in a stamp competition.
“Each of the classes had to design a new stamp for The Queen which were then used to decorate the hall. The art club created some beautiful pictures and classes P6 and P7 made lovely montages of The Queen,” said the school principal Honor Irvine.
On the day of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations, all the school children dressed up as princes and princesses and took part in a parade.
“Ballindarragh Accordion Band, they accompanied us. We also had five vintage cars.
“Each of the classes made their own banner,” said Honor, going on to give a special thanks to Local Community Officer Gareth Hunter and the PSNI, who assisted with the road closure for the parade.
“We marched up to the top of the village and it was completely full of people including former school children, parents and grandparents, and just members of the local community,” she added, noting that following the parade, everyone was invited back for a vintage tea party at the school.
Later in the afternoon, the children enjoyed a Jubilee picnic lunch outside, along with bouncy castles and a DJ.
“It was a really enjoyable, fun day which was well-supported by the local community,” Honor told this newspaper.
