Queen Elizabeth II Primary School celebrated its namesake’s 70 year reign with a range of events at the school on Wednesday, June 1.
The Platinum Jubilee celebrations at the Kilskeery primary school were extra special due to the fact that the school opened the year of The Queen’s coronation, 1953, and therefore was named after Her Majesty.
The celebrations started with a piping workshop and later in the afternoon the children enjoyed a highland dancing workshop, both provided by the Ulster Scots Agency. A street party style lunch was held outside the school, and following, the children enjoyed eating their Platinum Jubilee themed biscuits, which they had decorated the day prior.
The children were encouraged to dress up for the occasion, choosing to wear red, white and blue, dress as a member of the Royal Family or something related to royalty.
Entertainment continued with a treasure hunt in the school grounds, where the children had to find facts about The Queen and a special assembly was led by Canon Johnston and Reverend Donaldson.
“We had a fantastic day, the weather was brilliant and the children rose to the challenge, they all participated and they all really enjoyed themselves,” said Miss Clingan, school principal.
