A Fermanagh senior citizen who holds a disability parking permit has raised her concerns over able-bodied drivers using disabled parking bays in Enniskillen.
The woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, spoke to The Impartial Reporter this week about how she was unable to park close to the town centre shop she required due to an able-bodied driver using a disabled parking bay.
Speaking to this newspaper, she said: “On Sunday [June 19], I was going to B&M, but I couldn’t see any disabled spot when I first came up, they were all taken so I had to drive around again.
“I drove round a third time, and there were still people going in, in front of me into the spaces.
“But there was one young girl, a very fit-looking girl,” said the woman, noting that the girl had parked in a disabled parking bay and was walking down towards B&M.
“I then had to go way down the street to park.
“If I had have got talking to her, I would have said that those spaces were for disabled people,” said the woman, who due to pain, finds it hard to walk even short distances.
‘Struggle’
“It was a struggle to walk up the street but I still made it.
“I really resent people taking up spaces for disabled people that aren’t disabled,” added the woman, who hopes that drivers will respect the parking spaces that are meant for people who really need them.
