Irvinestown Primary School is delighted to have won the competition for the ‘Best School Garden Award’, awarded at the Fermanagh Gardening Society and Daffodil Show.
For the show, Mrs. Bradshaw and Mrs. Gray, along with the Eco-Team, put together a poster to show how they use the garden to enrich learning throughout the school.
It highlighted all the improvements made to the school garden recently and all the wonderful vegetables and plants that are grown.
Irvinestown PS hold a weekly gardening club where pupils and staff members care for and enhance their school garden together.
Mrs. Gordon, Mrs. Cruwys and Mrs. Hallett came to school to present the award to the staff and pupils.
The judge of the competition, Mr. Scott Fallis, said: “What a wonderful showcase of how a school can use garden space for outdoor learning lessons as well as for play, along with improving appearances.”
He commended the gardening club and particularly liked how current global issues were linked, with sunflower posters and painted pots highlighting the ongoing war in Ukraine.
Mrs. Bradshaw said: “We are very proud of our school garden which provides an array of fantastic learning opportunities for our children.
“The area has recently doubled in size and has enhanced learning across the curriculum for all year groups.
