The opening of the Devenish College new-build school site has been delayed until the new year.
In what will be disappointing news for many, it was confirmed this week that the opening of a new £21.5 million site for Devenish College has been delayed yet again.
A spokeswoman from the Education Authority (EA) confirmed to The Impartial Reporter that the project is now due to complete in January, 2023.
In a statement, she said: “The new Devenish College project is due to complete in January, 2023, and the school intends to occupy the new premises in line with the completion date.”
The new site for Devenish College has been a long-running and drawn-out process.
Plans were first lodged for such a site when Enniskillen High School and the Duke of Westminster amalgamated in 2005, and were long in place when Lisnaskea High School amalgamated into Devenish College in 2013.
The works progress began in 2019 – almost 15 years after they had been initially planned.
The new-build Devenish College will accommodate 800 students aged between 11 to 18, and will be located on a new greenfield site on the outskirts of Enniskillen, at the Tempo Road, some 1.5 miles from the existing school site.
