A report by a member of the public about two men attempting to start a van in the early hours of the morning has led to a conviction for one of the men at Enniskillen Magistrates Court.
On Monday, the court heard that on November 19, 2019, at around 5.45am police were tasked to the Lisnarick area following the report.
They came across a Ford Transit van at the scene, which had its headlights on and the engine was running, with two males also present.
Upon speaking to the driver, officers observed his speech was slurred.
Another male in the passenger seat – Alex Quinn (23), with an address of Sallys Wood, Irvinestown – was also identified.
During an interview with police, Quinn did not comment.
His solicitor, Michelle McVeigh, told the court her client had consumed a considerable amount of alcohol on the evening in question and had been offered a lift, which he took and made full admissions to.
She stressed Quinn was not associated with any other criminal activity which occurred on the day in question, and asked the court to give him credit for his plea at an early opportunity.
For allowing himself to be carried, Quinn was handed a three-month prison sentence, suspended for two years by Deputy District Judge John Rea.
