THE FREE Staters in South Donegal have appealed to the British military headquarters at Enniskillen for ammunition. A quantity of arms and ammunitions were despatched, but no troops left to help the Provisional Government’s forces.

It was rumoured in Enniskillen that the Sinn Fein cry for help was due to the recapture of Ballyshannon and Bundoran by the Irregulars, but no confirmation of this is forthcoming.

The Free Staters have met with some success in County Sligo. At Collooney, a force under the command of the celebrated ‘Major-General’ McKeon took the town and 70 Republican prisoners. Some casualties are reported. A communique declares that four hours of fighting took place.

It may be mentioned that McKeon’s forces shelled the Protestant church at Collooney, alleging that the Republicans were using it as a fort.

The tower has been practically demolished.

Massing

The Irregulars are massing with a view to recapturing the town and say that they have McKeon’s force surrounded.

In County Leitrim, fighting has again broken out, and an engagement between the rival ‘armies’ had taken place at Manorhamilton.

It transpires that the Sinn Fein hospital train which came through Northern territory on Friday on its way to Dublin, did so without the permission of either police or military. It is stated that if anything of a similar nature is attempted in future, the train will be turned back.

A Sligo gentleman having business interests in England had to journey to Enniskillen to send a telegram. He first had to walk to Drumahaire, a distance of 14 miles, where he got a train to take him to Enniskillen.
