The charity Extern, that runs Roscor Youth Village facility and provides support services for vulnerable young people, has confirmed the Chief Executive has resigned.
Last month, it was revealed a vulnerable young person attending Extern for support services was sexually assaulted by their key worker, who was based in the Fermanagh facility.
While the incident did not occur on Extern premises, the abuser 'befriended' the victim, who had been referred by Social Services.
The abuser was prosecuted in 2019, and while Extern fully complied with all reporting requirements in Northern Ireland, it did not inform Tusla – the Child and Family Agency in the Republic.
Since then, further claims have been made around serious safeguarding concerns, which have been put to Extern and the Western Health and Social Care Trust.
Some relate to Roscor Youth Village, which opened in 1997, and is situated between Enniskillen and Belleek in County Fermanagh.
It is described as “a haven of hope for young people who need to take time out from the challenges in their home lives”.
Until earlier this week, Danny McQuillan headed the charity, which provides services on both sides of the Border, receiving significant funding from both jurisdictions.
It remains unclear if the resignation is connected to recent and pending disclosures.
A spokesperson confirmed: “Danny McQuillan has left Extern to take up another senior position within the voluntary and charity sector in Northern Ireland.
“We wish him the very best with this exciting new opportunity, and thank him for his years of service with Extern."
Asked what date the resignation takes effect, the spokesperson replied: “Danny McQuillan has now left Extern. We cannot comment further on individual staff matters.”
