Fermanagh and Omagh District Council’s first district-wide outdoor theatre season has come to a close.
The shows brought lots of laughter and entertainment to more than 1,100 people across the district, with six different productions taking place in six different venues, from June 21 to July 22.
At the shows, families across the district brought picnics, rugs, deckchairs, cushions and cool boxes along to the Fermanagh Lakeland Forum (Enniskillen), Bawnacre Centre (Irvinestown), Castle Park Centre (Lisnaskea), Omagh Leisure Centre, Enniskillen Castle and Drumquin soccer pitches, made themselves at home, and enjoyed two hours of fabulous live family-friendly theatre.
The event in the Bawnacre Centre was part of the annual Lady of the Lake Festival and marked the first time that the Council brought theatre to Irvinestown, Lisnaskea or Drumquin.
The productions by Heartbreak Theatre Company and Chapterhouse Theatre Company featured a mix of classic and modern authors, including works by David Walliams, Jane Austen, William Shakespeare and Charlotte Brontë.
Literary masterpieces such as ‘Pride and Prejudice’ to the ever-popular ‘Cinderella’ to the Shakespearean classic, ‘Twelfth Night’ (given a modern ‘Love Island’ twist) were enjoyed by all ages.
The Council’s Arts Team is already planning the 2023 season, with advance notice that it is programming ‘The Wizard of Oz’, ‘MacHamLear’ (desvribed as a Shakespeare mash-up), another David Walliams play, and another classic yet to be announced in venues throughout the district, including a exciting theatre experience in Enniskillen.
