A man has been convicted of having no insurance after being stopped by police driving a motorcycle.
On May 25, police observed a Triumph 600cc motorcycle on the Belturbet Road, Derrylin at around 4.40pm. They followed for a distance before stopping the driver – Matthew Gilmore (19), of Killynick Road, Derrylin – and asked him to provide his details.
Enniskillen Magistrates Court heard on Monday that when asked for his details, Gilmore told police he was not covered to drive that size of motorcycle and did not have any insurance to drive.
Gary Black, Gilmore’s solicitor, explained to the court his client obtained a full driving licence in March, 2021 through his employment and was covered to drive that size of motorcycle.
Gilmore had his test booked for the motorcycle but due to problems with his documentation, he could not take it, said Mr. Black. On the day in question, Gilmore was driving to an isolated area to practice and made full admissions to police.
Gilmore was handed a two-week disqualification and £350 fine for having no insurance.
