August, 1992: The £7m extension to St. Michael’s College, Enniskillen, opens next week, marking the successful culmination of many years of planning and fundraising efforts.
The majority of the 690 students will be taking their place in splendid new classrooms with the very latest equipment and facilities for a wide range of subjects.
The remainder have to continue using the temporary classrooms occupied for almost ten years while waiting for the completion of a major renovation scheme to the original college buildings opened in 1957.
This refurbishment is scheduled for completion in February next and there is to be an official opening of the new and the renovated section in April.
The number of students attending St. Michael’s has been growing steadily over the past few years and has now reached an intake of approximately 100 per annum.
