A businessman who was returning home from a meal in Enniskillen was caught driving 33mph over the speed limit.
Shortly before 11pm on July 10, 2022, police detected an Audi Q7 travelling at 93mph on the A4 Belfast Road, near Maguiresbridge.
The car was stopped and when the driver, Phillip Allen (30), of Drumgrass Road, Cookstown was spoken to he made no reply.
His barrister, Michael Boyd, told the court Allen’s speed was “grossly in excess of the limit” and he was extremely sorry for driving in the manner that he did on that night.
Mr. Boyd explained that Allen, who runs an accident and repair business, was in Enniskillen for a meal and was driving home.
He said, Allen travels around 50,000 miles a year with his job and this incident caused him to be extremely concerned about losing his licence to which District Judge Steven Keown responded: “So he should be.”
Mr. Boyd said Allen was taking the incident very seriously and was extremely remorseful and sorry and he has learned his lesson.
Judge Keown told Allen he would have “no further room for manoeuvre” with any further points putting him off the road.
He pointed out that many of his colleagues would disqualify a driver who was caught doing over 100mph on a motorway and that this was the equivalent in a 60mph zone.
Allen was given five penalty points and a £500 fine for excess speed.
