Business was brisk at the Ulster Farmers’ Mart recently for the annual sale of breeding sheep, which attracted an entry of more than 2,000 head.
At the mart, pedigree Texel shearling rams sold from 350gns to a top sale price of 700gns – figures which were reflected by other sales on the day, which also achieved satisfactory prices.
While Texel rams came out on top with the top 700gn mark, other sales included the likes of Belclare/Charollais breeds (selling up to 540gns) and first cross Charollais/Texel shearlings (350gns to 550gns).
The well-attended event on the bank holiday Monday, August 29, drew great interest, with almost a full clearance achieved of both ewes and rams, reflected by the prices of the day.
