Police on foot patrol in Enniskillen who stopped a male who appeared to be under the influence of drugs were handed a bag of cannabis, a court has heard.
On March 4, police were on patrol in the Irvine Crescent area of Enniskillen at around 3.35pm when they observed Liam Reece Aiden Swift (21), with an address of McCrea Park, Clogher.
Enniskillen Magistrates Court heard on Monday that Swift appeared under the influence of drugs. There was a smell of cannabis, and his speech was slow and slurred.
During the interaction with police, Swift took a bag of cannabis out of his pocket worth £35-40, and he was cautioned but made no reply.
Garry Smyth, Swift’s solicitor, asked for credit for his client’s cooperation with police and early plea at court.
He acknowledged the difficulty Swift’s criminal record posed, and it was a matter not lost on the defence. Swift was given a two-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, for possession of a Class-B drug.
