The Enniskillen Model Primary School Parent Teachers’ Association (PTA)’s 5k Run and Walk in memory of Shirley Rowland – a much-loved colleague and friend who passed away on the 30th October 2020 - will now take place on Friday, September 23 at 6pm.
The event was originally scheduled to take place on Friday, September 9 but was postponed following the passing of Her Majesty The Queen.
Shirley Rowland (née Kee) worked as a Classroom Assistant at Enniskillen Model Primary School where she was also Chairperson of the School’s Parent Teachers’ Association for several years. Shirley was an extremely dedicated, highly respected, and much-loved member of staff, who successfully organised a large number of the school’s events and fundraising activities, including the school’s first 5k running races which took place in 2018 and 2019.
The race will have chipped timing, there will be cash prizes for the top three males and females, and all participants will receive a bespoke medal. Refreshments will be served at the end of the event at Enniskillen Model Primary School.
Cheryl Clarke, Chairperson of Enniskillen Model Primary School Parent Teachers’ Association, said: “This event is being organised to honour our dear friend Shirley’s memory. All proceeds raised through this event will go towards Enniskillen Model PTA resources fund and a charity chosen by Shirley’s family. Both of these organisations were very close to Shirley’s heart.”
Cheryl added: “Our PTA is very fortunate to have the help and support of Mrs. Irene Clements, a very experienced and talented runner, who has devised the route for Shirley’s Run.”
Shirley’s 5k Run and Walk will start at the end of Castlecoole Road (by the back gates to Castlecoole Estate and the entrance to Enniskillen Golf Club). The scenic route will travel through Castlecoole Estate, out onto the Dublin Road, and finish within the grounds of Enniskillen Model Primary School.
Anyone interested in taking part in this family-friendly 5k run and walk can register in-person at Enniskillen Model Primary School tonight (Thursday, September 22) between 6.30pm and 8pm and on the day itself, Friday, September 23, between 4pm and 5.30pm. Race bib numbers can be collected at these times also.
Children under-16 are welcome to participate but must be authorized to do so by a parent/ guardian. Children under eight years old must be accompanied by an adult.
