There has been welcome news that the Enniskillen woman who took ill in Croatia has returned back to Northern Ireland.
Mrs. Jennifer Tierney (73) was first admitted to hospital on September 21 after travelling to Dubrovnik, Croatia, alongside her husband Dermot and daughter Orla, and a group on pilgrimage who were due to travel onward to Medjugorje, Bosnia.
Jennifer took ill on the airplane and was immediately brought to hospital in Dubrovonik. Her family had to endure a wait in order to find out would their medical insurance cover the costs of bring Jennifer back to Northern Ireland.
The extended Tierney family were delighted to hear from their insurance provider last Thursday that Jennifer would be flown home, and she was flown from Croatia to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast on Sunday
Relieved that her mother is now home, speaking to this newspaper, Jennifer’s daughter Orla Humphrey’s said: “We were able to get her home by Air Ambulance on Sunday and the Royal [Victoria Hospital] are looking after her now and she is in good hands now.”
The community in Fermanagh pulled together last week when it emerged that Jennifer had taken ill with thousands of pounds raised to support Jennifer and her family. The family are incredibly grateful for all support they have received from the community at large in Fermanagh and further afield.
