The site of the former South West College (SWC) Fairview campus, located at Gaol Square, Enniskillen is now up for sale.
A former college, this large site comprises a number of existing buildings, extending to c. 125,000 sq ft, to include the main college building, a former jail and library (both of which are Listed buildings).
Being brought to the market by property agents Lisney, director Andrew Gawley said: “Sites such as this are in demand due to the location, size and redevelopment possibilities, and as such, we anticipate strong levels of interest in this opportunity.
“The vast scale of this site lends itself to various uses including a hotel, retail, office, leisure or residential – all subject to Planning Permission.”
The site is zoned as ‘White Land’ as per the Fermanagh Area Plan 2007 and development is therefore subject to all necessary consents with interested parties advised to make their own enquiries into the potential of the site.
Carol Viney from SWC, said: “This site is located in a highly sought-after area making it an attractive proposition for various parties such as investors and developers.
“A site of this size provides limitless potential for a redevelopment project and we look forward to seeing what is in store for the future of this local landmark.”
Speaking to The Impartial Reporter in September 2021 regarding the sale of the former SWC Fairview site, Eimear Grugan, project sponsor for the SWC Erne Campus explained that the proceeds of the sale will be returned to the Department for the Economy, the body that funded the building of the new college campus.
At the time, she said: "First of all we have to say that the funding for this [the building of the new SWC Erne Campus] came from the Department for the Economy,” she said, noting how the Department has been “very supportive” the whole way through.
“It’s a £30 million project, it’s fantastic to have that investment here in Enniskillen but then the other side of that is they obviously want to recoup some of their investment, I suppose for development of other Further Education (FE) colleges.
“We therefore have to sell Fairview and then proceeds of the sale, that money then returns to the Department for the Economy and that gets reinvested in the whole FE sector,” she had told this newspaper.
