IT is a particular honour for the Erne Hospital that Consultant Physician and Cardiologist Dr. Mahen Varma was inaugurated as President of the Irish Cardiac Society.
This is the first time in the society’s 53 years that a President has come from a country hospital. Dr. Varma succeeds Dr. Kieran Daly, Consultant at University College Hospital, Galway.
His role calls on him to give advice to government departments about cardiology services on the island of Ireland and he will also have an input via the European Society of Cardiology to the EU on matters relation to cardiology in the EU.
“It is a huge honour, not for me but for the Erne Hospital and the staff who have supported the Cardiac Unit since I started it in 1982,” said Dr. Varma.
