PRESBYTERIAN HARVEST THANKSGIVING

The Enniskillen Presbyterian congregation held the annual harvest thanksgiving services on Sunday last. The services were not held until the harvest had been saved, and the preacher was Rev. A.J. Jenkins, whose address in the evening was on the subject of ‘The Leaf’ - a scholarly handling of a simple object, which was followed with interest. The services were continued on Monday evening, the preacher being Rev. Dr. Morrow, M.A., Omagh. All the services were well attended, and the Band of the Lincolnshire Regiment led the praise service. Solos were acceptably sung by Mrs. Foster (at all services), and Mrs. H.E. Ritchie (on Monday evening). The decorations were tasteful, a novelty being a huge loaf placed behind the pulpit, baked by bakers who are members of the congregation.

FREE STATE SOLDIER ARRESTED

A Free State soldier in uniform was arrested at Enniskillen on Friday morning. His name was Edward Somers, and as he could give no account of himself, and said he was a deserted from Manorhamilton, he was handed over to the Free State authorities at Blacklion.

AN IRREGULAR ARRESTED

A smart capture was made by members of the B Constabulary of an irregular in the Mullaghy district, near Enniskillen. It seems that the men, whose name was Nesbitt, was at Mullaghy nearing curfew hour. He sought the hospitality of a Protestant farmer, stating that he was going to the Free State, and could not make it by curfew hour. The farmer sympathetically took the man in. Later the B men, who have a guard post at this spot, got into conversation with the man, their suspicions were aroused, and they searched him, and found in the lining of his cap a letter, asking for arms for the purpose of shooting Loyalists in the Free State. The man was put under arrest, and taken in a commandeered motor car to Florencecourt. The prisoner admitted a republican, and had been in an ambush. When the Free Staters at Blacklion heard of the man’s arrest they applied for him as a ‘wanted man’. The Special Constabulary thereupon handed the man over to the Free State authorities. In the Mullaghdun district, the house of a man named Farmer, was searched by the Constabulary last week.
