A local councillor has said things could have ended a “hell of a lot worse” after he and his daughter were involved in a car crash in Enniskillen in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Councillor Sheamus Greene, an Erne East councillor, was picking up his daughter Siobhan from a night out in Enniskillen.
The Sinn Fein councillor described how the pair were driving along the Belfast Road past the Killyhevlin Hotel before being struck by a car travelling at high speed from behind.
He said: ““If there had been anything coming toward us – a lorry or a car – we would have been straight into them, as we had went over the white line.”
Sheamus acknowledged that the accident made him and his daughter grateful for the services provided at the South West Acute Hospital (SWAH), adding: “It brings it home just how important the hospital is, sitting beside us.”
Thankfully, the pair have escaped with only minor injuries, with Sheamus adding: “We are very sore from being hit at speed, but there were no bones broken or anything.”
A PSNI spokesperson said: “It was reported that a silver Peugeot 308 car was struck by a blue-coloured car in the area. There were no reports of any injuries.
“Enquiries are continuing, and police would appeal to anyone with any information to contact them at 101, quoting reference number 247 30/10/22.”
