The managing director of Skip Services Enniskillen has thanked emergency services, the local community and businesses for their help and support as the Garvary-based company experienced a “major fire incident” at its premises on Tuesday, January 17 which was attended by more than 40 firefighters.
The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) attended the site at the Largy Road in the Garvary area of Co. Fermanagh following a report of a fire at 4.10am on Tuesday morning.
Five NIFRS fire appliances, three specialist appliances and the British Red Cross Fire and Emergency Support Service (FESS) Team attended the incident.
PSNI officers also assisted the NIFRS by directing traffic and advising residents of the Garvary area who live within 500m of the incident to keep their doors and windows shut due to the smoke.
The Largy Road was closed for a period of time, but has since been reopened.
Large plumes of smoke could be seen billowing across the surrounding countryside as more than 40 firefighters tackled the blaze.
As of this newspaper going to print on the afternoon of Wednesday, January 18, a NIFRS spokesperson confirmed that the incident was “under control” but still ongoing.
Speaking to The Impartial Reporter yesterday, Wednesday, Declan Leonard – Managing Director of Skip Services Enniskillen – said: “In the early hours of Tuesday morning we had a major fire incident on our site, which has now been brought under control.
“I would like to take the opportunity to thank the NIFRS and the British Red Cross for all their help over the last few days, along with the local community and businesses in the area for reaching out with support and assistance during this time.
“We continue to operate all our services as normal, and we appreciate everybody’s patience.”
