A Chinese takeaway in Co. Fermanagh has been named the best in Northern Ireland during a recent awards ceremony celebrating takeaway restaurants across the country.
Lucky House in Newtownbutler, owned by Tony and Becky He, who also own Lucky House Ballygawley, was announced as the overall winner of the Best Oriental Takeaway in Northern Ireland award sponsored by RP Crawford & Co. Solicitors, at the NI Takeaway Awards 2023.
The glamorous Gala Awards night was hosted at the Europa Hotel in Belfast on February 27.
The Fermanagh-based Chinese takeaway, who were highly commended at last year’s awards, beat six other businesses to win the award this year.
Delighted to be recognised with the Northern Ireland-wide award, Becky said: “This recognition means the world to Tony and myself.
“We love working the kitchen, even when we are tired, stressed or having a bad night.
“At the end of a busy night, we are satisfied that we’ve tried our best and the food is always good!
“We have put our hearts into creating very tasty, yet healthy Chinese food. I’m humbled and still very much in shock.”
Commenting that she was very emotional following the announcement that Lucky House Newtownbutler had won the award, Becky added: “It’s been very tough [these] last few months, mentally and financially juggling two shops with a young family.
“During an emotional interview afterwards, I had to give a special mention to mum, who takes care of the kids, and our staff, who always show up for us.
“Lastly, and most importantly, this would not have been possible without all of our customers in Newtownbutler and Ballygawley, who support us time and time again.”
Becky also congratulated the owners of the takeaway that came highly-commended in the Best Oriental Takeaway category.
She said: “We want to congratulate our friends, Jeremiah Chan and Team Sinley Takeaway in Cookstown, on their highly-commended achievement!”
