Police in Fermanagh are conducting enquiries following a devastating blaze at a bungalow in the Cavanaleck area of Enniskillen, where firefighters were called out to tackle fires twice in the early hours last Tuesday, March 14.
A PSNI spokesperson said last Friday, March 17: “Police attended an address in the Willowvale area of Enniskillen following a house fire this week to conduct enquiries.
“A small amount of chemicals in the property were not found to present a risk of harm.
“The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service is investigating the fire which was reported on Tuesday, March 14.
“It is not believed to be suspicious at this time.”
Following a call at 1.12am on the morning of Tuesday, March 14, three Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) appliances – two from Enniskillen Fire Station, and one from Irvinestown Fire Station – attended the incident at Willowvale.
Speaking later that day, a NIFRS spokesperson said: “Firefighters were called to a fire at a residential property early this morning.
“Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reels to extinguish the fire.
“The incident was dealt with by 3.08am and the cause of the fire is believed to be accidental ignition.”
However, at 5.48am that same morning, the NIFRS were called to attend a second fire at the property.
Speaking to The Impartial Reporter last Thursday, March 16, a NIFRS spokesperson confirmed: “One fire appliance from Enniskillen Fire Station and one fire appliance from Irvinestown Fire Station attended the incident.
“Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used one hose reel to extinguish the fire.
“The incident was dealt with by 7.31am and the cause of the fire is believed to be accidental ignition.”
As a result of the fire, the residential property – a bungalow – is understood to have been severely damaged.
When contacted by this newspaper, a spokesperson for NIFRS confirmed: “There was one male occupant of the house, and he was out of the house when firefighters arrived.
“He was taken into the care of Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS), but it was not believed that he had any injuries.”
Also confirming a lack of injuries at the scene, a spokesperson for NIAS told this newspaper: “NIAS received a 999 call at 01:26 on Tuesday, March 14 following reports of an incident in the Willowvale Area, Enniskillen.
“NIAS despatched one ambulance to the scene of the incident. Following assessment and initial treatment at the scene, no patients were taken to hospital.”
