A priest who was a former President at St. Michael’s College, Enniskillen has been given a period of leave from his duties while a “safeguarding matter” is addressed.

Clogher Diocese confirmed Canon Patrick McEntee, who is Parish Priest in Dromore, Co. Tyrone, has asked for a period of leave to allow a safeguarding matter to be addressed.

He was also a former teacher and President at St. Michael’s College.

“The Diocese of Clogher has robust safeguarding policies and practices in place. The Diocese of Clogher takes seriously all allegations, suspicions or concerns of abuse,” a spokesperson for the Diocese said.

“Anyone wishing to report abuse or express a concern can do so by contacting one of the Designated Liaison Persons or the Safeguarding Director at the Diocesan Safeguarding Office, Ros Erne House, No. 8 Darling Street, Enniskillen BT74 7EJ; telephone 0777 550 7445; email: safeguardingdirector@clogherdiocese.ie.

“For more information on safeguarding in the Diocese of Clogher, see Safeguarding – Diocese of Clogher at clogherdiocese.ie.”

Canon McEntee was appointed as Canon in 2019 by Bishop of Clogher, Larry Duffy.

Clogher Diocese was asked if the safeguarding issue related to Canon McEntee’s time at St. Michael’s.

However, the spokesperson said as the matter is ongoing, they could make no further comment in relation to it.
