A new memorial quilt will be dedicated by South East Fermanagh Foundation (SEFF) this weekend at a special service held in St. Anne's Cathedral, Belfast.
SEFF's Director, Kenny Donaldson, said: "We are pleased that St. Anne's Cathedral have agreed to work collaboratively with us in first hosting a dedication service on Sunday, April 30, at 3.30pm but in also facilitating the display of our seven memorial quilts within the cathedral over the period of Friday, April 28 to Friday, May 12.
"This project remembers innocents from right across the community who were impacted by all forms of violence over the years of The Troubles, right up to more recent years.
"The quilt unifies 70-plus families who share a common values system – that violence was never justified in the furtherance of or defence of a political objective.
"Those remembered include security forces, police and army; prison service personnel; and civilians from across the community."
Explaining the background of the quilt, Mr. Donaldson said: "The quilt, like others before, was developed by a team of special volunteers within SEFF under the guidance of facilitator Sonia Johnston.
"The quilt seeks to humanise those being remembered who may be said to be ordinary people, but who were actually extraordinary to those who they were known to best.
"It is aptly titled, 'The SEFF Family Remembers', and seeks to bring a level of recognition to those who previously were not acknowledged, who haven’t had a political or resource-based focus."
This is SEFF’s seventh quilt and follows on from others entitles, 'Your Legacy Lives On', 'A Patchwork of Innocents', 'Uniting Innocent Victims', 'Terrorism knows No Borders', 'Brougher Mountain Innocents Remembered' and 'Through Remembering, We Build Bridges'.
Concluding, Mr. Donaldson said: "We encourage local people and visitors alike to visit the exhibition over the two-week period that it will be running within the cathedral.
"The quilts, when displayed, are particularly special and they remember almost 500 innocents of The Troubles from across the community."
