Could the Slieve Russell have a new owner?
The news that the Slieve Russell is up for sale has been met with great interest from the local community as prospective buyers set out their stalls.
However, an unlikely buyer, MMA fighter Conor McGregor has also expressed an interest in purchasing the iconic Cavan hotel during an exchange with another man.
Last week, it was reported that Seán Gallagher, a property entrepreneur and a former Presidential candidate for the Republic of Ireland confirmed that he is interested in acquiring the Ballyconnell property once owned by former billionaire Seán Quinn.
Now, in a video widely circulated on social media across Fermanagh and Cavan, Mr. McGregor is seen speaking to a young man from Cavan.
“Up Cavan, that’s real Ireland there,” McGreogr said.
Shaking hands with a young man he asks: “What’s the hotel up there, Slieve?
“Slieve Russell?” replies the young Cavan man Who adds: “Seán Quinn is a don.”
Agreeing, McGregor adds: “Yeah he is a legend.
“You know what, he supported his people and I have a lot of respect for him.”
What will most interest readers is what Mr. McGregor says next: “I was looking at the hotel, it’s up for sale at the minute.”
His Cavan acquaintance laughs and adds: “You have the money for it anyway.”
The Impartial Reporter approached a representative of Mr. McGregor for comment but did not receive a response by the time of going to print.
