THE Council is raising awareness of the benefits of keeping active on some of the district's many beautiful walking routes.
Fermanagh and Omagh District Council's 'Walk of the Month' awareness campaign will see a walk of the month presented on social media with photos, a video, and the Council’s Walking Cards.
Taking place across 2024, the walks have been carefully selected to cover a variety of the Fermanagh and Omagh District Area, be animal and family-friendly, and have a range of grade levels.
The Chair of the Council, Councillor Thomas O’ Reilly (SF), is hopeful that the benefits of the new walking campaign will be two-fold.
“The Council is committed to improving the lives and wellbeing of our communities," he said.
"Through this Walk of the Month campaign, we hope to inspire our residents to go walking and get active outdoors, while socialising, experiencing and appreciating our beautiful district.
"While out walking, we encourage everyone to share their photos of the Walk of the Month by using the hashtag #FODCWalkoftheMonth on social media.
"Also, most importantly, while out walking, we ask everyone to ensure they leave no trace, and play their part to ensure our District is both welcoming and attractive and the environment is protected.”
The 'Leave No Trace' principles are designed to protect and conserve the natural landscapes and ecosystems as well as the cultural heritage to ensure that everyone can enjoy and benefit from being outdoors.
