A SYRIAN native was caught speeding at 90mph on the Belfast Road, Enniskillen, a court has heard.
Mohammed Bassem Al Hamawi (56) of Mountview Drive, Lisnaskea, appeared at Enniskillen Magistrate's Court on Monday, March 11.
The court heard that Hamawi was pleading guilty to a single charge of speeding in October last year.
A prosecutor told the court how on October 11 at around 3.59pm, police on the Belfast Road detected a Volkswagen Tiguan travelling at 90mph. The speed limit on this road is 60mph, the prosecutor added.
Hamawi's solicitor said he had moved to Northern Ireland in 2019 with his wife and teenage daughters.
On the date in question, the solicitor said, Hamawi "had to rush home" to attend to his wife, who was in a "medical emergency".
"He fully accepts his speed was inappropriate", the solicitor said. "On the day of the incident, his wife eventually had to be admitted to hospital."
The solicitor said that as the only driver in his family, Hamawi was "relied heavily on", and that the loss of his licence would have an impact on his children.
District judge Alana McSorley said she was prepared to give Hamawi credit for his early plea of guilty, and imposed four penalty points, £80, and £15 offender levy.
