AN ENNISKILLEN woman who was caught driving uninsured at Bellanaleck has been sentenced.
Leanne Hicks (28) appeared at Enniskillen Magistrate's Court on Monday, March 11.
A prosecutor told the court how on January 8 of this year, police on mobile patrol at Bellanaleck, Co Fermanagh observed a Hyundai i10 pulling out of a filling station.
Police followed the car into the village and brought the driver, Hicks, to a stop.
A check was carried out which revealed that Hicks was both uninsured and didn't hold a full driving licence.
Hicks made full admissions at the roadside.
Her solicitor described Hicks as a "28-year-old single mum" who had worked as a "full-time carer" for 12 years.
On the day of the incident, Hicks had made the "foolish" and "costly" decision to drive to the shop for groceries, the solicitor said.
The solicitor added that while the vehicle was in a roadworthy condition and was insured, Hicks wasn't named on the policy.
In terms of a licence, the solicitor said that while Hicks had held a licence since 2012, at the time of the incident this needed renewed.
For the offence of no insurance, district judge, Alana McSorley, imposed six penalty points and a £75 fine.
For driving without a licence, a £75 fine was imposed.
