A local theatre company has secured its place in all-Ireland drama festival finals for the second time.
Enniskillen Theatre Company, which was formed a few years ago to compete on the drama festival circuit, has showcased their production of Martin McDonagh’s, ‘The Lonesome West’, to seven of the festivals across six counties, gaining 14 awards, including eight for acting, two for Best Director, two for Best Production in the Confined Section, and two for Best Moments of Theatre.
The 2024 Bostik All-Ireland Confined Drama Finals will be held in Mountmellick on April 24.
Ena Trimble, Director of the play, said: “It has been a wonderful experience overall.
“Through meeting different adjudicators along the way, we learned a lot. With their input and advice, we were able to make some small changes and develop the play on our journey.
“We were warmly welcomed by our hosts at each venue and enjoyed fabulous hospitality throughout.”
The cast of four comprises actors Cristian Carbin, Michael Boyle, Paul Doherty and Clodagh Sweeney, along with Stage Manager Leah Robinson, and a backstage crew.
The play is a darkly comic portrayal of modern rural Ireland which centres around two brothers who, having just buried their father, find it impossible to co-exist without constantly arguing over the most mundane and innocent of topics.
Before heading to the finals, the group will perform their award-winning production one final time locally at the Ardhowen Theatre on Sunday, April 21.
