AN Ederney musician who has a “spark in her heart for Country” is gearing up to compete in one of Ireland’s biggest Country competitions.
Dana Teague grew up listening to her mum, who was in a two-piece band, as well as singers such as Philomena Begley, Susan McCann, Isla Grant and of course, Dolly Parton.
And now, ready to pursue her passion for Country music and singing, she is set to compete in ‘Cowboys & Heroes’, the Country Music and Americana Festival in Ballinamore, Leitrim.
Dana will compete in the Country StarSemi Final on Saturday, June 1, and she said she is hoping to “come back to Fermanagh a happy girl”.
“I’ve been singing since a very young age, and I’ve always had a spark in my heart for a good Irish Country classic,” Dana said.
“Throughout my childhood, I part took in many competitions, from Country to Traditional Irish singing and more recently charity events, Country dances and my latest venture competing in one of Ireland’s biggest country competitions at Cowboys and Heroes Festival in Ballinamore.
“This is a huge opportunity for me, and I can’t wait to get up on the stage and have some fun!”
She continued: “Music has always been such an escape for me and it’s something that really relaxes me.
“I used to feel ashamed that I liked Country music when people around me would be listening to the UK charts, but I’ve recently discovered that there’s so many people who love it, and being surrounded by them has given me a whole new sense of community and comfort.”
Dana added that no matter the outcome of the competition, taking part is, itself, a huge honour.
“I’d really appreciate any support in Ballinamore the more the merrier. But no matter the outcome, I’m delighted to have been asked to compete in such a massive festival.
“A special thank-you to Sean Wallace, who’s the reason I’m doing this competition, and to my mum, who has been the driving force behind my love for music.
“All I want is to make her proud, and here’s hoping she approves of my song choices!”
