With more and more parties announcing their candidates in Fermanagh and South Tyrone for the July 4 general election, eyes are starting to turn their gaze on Sinn Féin and who they will choose to replace Michelle Gildernew on the ballot paper.

Miss Gildernew, who is currently running in the European elections in the Midlands/North West constituency in the Republic of Ireland, confirmed last week she would not be running for Westminster.

As of yet, there have been no names touted however, there is some speculation that former vice-chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District, Chris McCaffrey, is a name being considered.

McCaffrey stepped down from the council before last May's local elections but is believed to be keen on the role.

Others who may have an interest in running would be current MLAs, Jemma Dolan and Aine Murphy. However, their fellow MLA, Colm Gildernew is not believed to have put his name forward for consideration.

But the party have remained tight-lipped on Miss Gildernew's replacement, apart from her official statement.

It is understood that a meeting is due to take place today (Tuesday) about the candidate selection with the possibility of an official announcement this evening or tomorrow.
